Warehouses and similar industrial projects provide an interesting problem. Calculations and design parameters are based on classification and height of storage, structural joist directions, beam locations, ceiling slopes, mechanical equipment, ceiling height, and other issues that must be addressed in a method that is unique to each project. Pipe sizing must be minimized through the use of grids. Pump sizing, where applicable, should be specified to have the lowest cost impact taking the entire system into consideration. What makes warehouses so different is that they often have little-to-no flexibility in their design. Coordination with other trades is often required and sprinkler locations will need to be designed to the inch.
